THE MASTIC
The first step to reach the finish I wanted was to give all the case a smooth texture which would create the illusion that the whole case was made from a single piece and also give the feeling that the case was not built with wood. For the continuation of the operation I got a coat of Mastic for wood and also a completion coat.
First, the work of filling the spaces between the various pieces of wood with the coat of Mastic on the top of the case and the front side.
Then I sandpapered the whole with a sander for flat areas and hand sandpapered for the round-offs.
In this picture, you can see that I re-stuck a small piece of wood in order to make the blowhole quite round because I didn’t like the oval form I started with.
And then I coated the last sides in the same way.
Here is the result I got after re-sanding all the case.
Great result, but this was only the beginning: the more difficult part was to come…
